Why laying a strong foundation is important for dancers?

“Don’t practice until you get it right. Practice until you cant get it wrong.” The dancers driven by passion sometimes stumble along a path that strays them away from their own destiny. The fire of dance ignites ones soul, enough to succumb to the art. It has become a common practice for dancers to teach before they have completed their training. The urge to spread what they have learnt or to put their talent to commercial gain, reasons being many, wouldn’t lead to the desired outcome. “A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.” This proverb has hit us many times, only to remind us of its immortality. There is a reason that the early years of our lives are devoted to learning and laying a strong foundation for the years to come, its not a foreign sight to witness students dwindling before completing their training, which doesn’t only hinder their learning process but once they command the post of a teacher, it becomes their utmost responsibility to impart wholesome knowledge which they will fail to do given they have not themselves become the masters of their subject. Dance is as extensive a study as any other subject. There are levels of training that a dancer must go through to sit on the other side of the table. Talent, perseverance and passion can drive one to great heights but it should be fuelled right and most importantly in the right direction.
